One of the oldest castles in the Moselle region can be found in Alken. Partly built on Roman foundation walls, Thurant Castle is visible from afar. Eltz Castle
If this sight looks somehow familiar to you, you are not mistaken. The pearl of the Mosel idyll, Eltz Castle, adorned the back of the 500-mark bill between 1961 and 1995. And a stamp was also issued at the end of the 1970s. This is hardly surprising, because Eltz Castle is so enchantingly situated in nature that one cannot help but marvel. The building survived all wars almost intact and has been owned by a single family for over 850 years. For those interested in culture and fans of the Middle Ages, it offers an armory and treasure chamber with gold and silver work. And for those who still need reasons to visit, the dream path Eltzer Burgpanorama with its floodplain landscapes and the picturesque Elzbach valley is highly recommended. Because hiking is also simply wonderful around this phenomenal castle.

Cochem
Cochem Imperial Castle
When you think of the Moselle, you usually think of Riesling, vineyards with steep terraces and Moselle bends. From now on, Moselle castles should definitely be in this list as well, because they have a lot to offer. The Reichsburg in Cochem is a real jewel, high on the rock above Cochem and lovingly restored in the 19th century. Here you can experience all sorts of things from the age of knights. Knights' banquets, medieval customs and a very special atmosphere at Christmas time are worth the visit.

Via Train through the Moselle Valley
Trains run several times a day between Koblenz and Trier. Even if you travel from Luxembourg with the RE 11, they do not have to change trains even once. You have never experienced a more beautiful train ride than on the route with the RB 81 through the Moselle valley. Falling asleep on the train is impossible on this connection. But if it does happen, just get off at the next wine village, try a sip of Riesling and return in complete relaxation.

Koblenz is the starting point or destination of the approx. 300 km long Moselle Cycle Path. From/to Metz it goes along the riverside paths through the magnificent Riesling wine country. The Moselle Cycle Path accompanies the course of the river in all its loops through the most diverse landscapes and mostly runs close to the banks.

Who says that you have to go to the mountains to hike? There are paths between the Moselle and Rhine that make every hiker's heart beat faster. One tip, for example, is the Löfer Rabenlaypfad dream trail. On this varied route, there are not only shady forest sections and steep climbs, but also fantastic views of the Moselle valley and some of its castles. The famous Moselsteig is also a real recommendation. There is definitely something for everyone here, so be sure to pack your hiking boots.
