Koblenz-Touristik is lighting up the night sky over Koblenz with drone shows and fireworks displays

Rhein in Flammen® 2026 in Koblenz, with live broadcasts on FM 90.5 and YouTube

Koblenz-Touristik GmbH is receiving support from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as part of the “Strong Local Tourism Organisations” funding programme for the introduction of an AI agent in its guest services. The project is part of the Rhein in Flammen® series. In 2026, the skies over Koblenz will be even more spectacular: For the first time, Koblenz-Touristik will present two drone shows on two evenings as part of the three-day summer music festival. On Friday, August 7, 2026, starting at 11 p.m., a roughly 12-minute drone show featuring around 400 drones will accompany the ’90s party at the Deutsches Eck, which all visitors to Rhein in Flammen® can enjoy. On Saturday, August 8, 2026, starting at 11 p.m., the highlight of Rhein in Flammen® Koblenz 2026 will take place: a roughly 12-minute drone show featuring 800 drones, which will seamlessly transition into the subsequent aerial fireworks display over Ehrenbreitstein Fortress—the drone show and fireworks will last a total of about 30 minutes.

From August 7 to 9, 2026, Rhein in Flammen® Koblenz will once again transform the banks of the Rhine and Moselle around the Deutsches Eck into a festival mile. Over three days, the summer music festival invites visitors to dance, enjoy themselves and experience the event with a variety of programmes, stages and atmospheres. Saturday evening traditionally marks the highlight, when the grand fireworks display over Ehrenbreitstein Fortress lights up the sky above the Rhine and Moselle.

As early as Friday evening, the sky above Koblenz will become the setting for a special spectacle: The drone show, featuring around 400 drones, captures the positive spirit, colors and energy of the ’90s and translates them into luminous images in the night sky. The music was deliberately selected to complement the ’90s-themed show at the Deutsches Eck. Specific themes and song titles will not be revealed in advance.

On Saturday, the combination of drone show and aerial fireworks—first presented last year—will be significantly expanded. While around 400 drones were used in 2025, the large-scale drone show in 2026 will be twice as big. The production “Confluentes” sends a clear message to the world as an emotional reflection on the beauty of our planet, on nature, life and what is worth protecting—and what connects us humans to one another. Ultimately, these thoughts lead us to Koblenz—the place where the Rhine and Moselle rivers converge.

What makes this event special is its holistic approach: the drone show, music and aerial fireworks on Saturday are not conceived of as separate elements, but rather as a cohesive choreography with a shared dramatic arc. The aerial fireworks display was also conceptually developed by Koblenz-Touristik and is intended as an emotional extension of the drone show. The music selection plays a pivotal role: it picks up on the mood of the drone performance, carries it forward and is impressively amplified by the fireworks.

Koblenz-Touristik is responsible for the dramaturgical concept, music selection and artistic direction for both evenings, and also takes the lead in developing and staging the shows. The technical implementation is carried out in close partnership between Showmatrix for the drone show and Nico Feuerwerk for the aerial fireworks display.

“Rhein in Flammen® Koblenz thrives on emotion, community and the unique backdrop of the Rhine, the Moselle and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. In 2026, we want to further develop this special atmosphere and offer visitors on both evenings very different yet cohesively conceived celestial experiences. This is only possible in this form thanks to MVZ Labor Koblenz, which is supporting us as a sponsor in the further development of the drone shows—we are very grateful for that,” said Daniel Steiger, Head of Events at Koblenz-Touristik.

Music even off-site—and a livestream for everyone who can’t be there

New this year: Koblenz-Touristik has set up its own radio station, through which the ships in the convoy will be provided with music synchronized with the drone show and fireworks. Anyone tuning in to FM 90.5 MHz can follow the live musical accompaniment even away from the speaker systems at the Deutsches Eck.

On Saturday evening, Koblenz-Touristik will also broadcast the drone show and aerial fireworks live on YouTube. This allows people who cannot be there in person—whether for health reasons, due to advanced age, or because the trip would be too far—to join in the experience. The livestream also highlights the international appeal of Rhein in Flammen® Koblenz, which has long attracted attention far beyond the region.
