The Herz-Jesu-Kirche
Significant neo-Romanesque sacral building
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Koblenz is one of the most important neo-Romanesque sacral buildings in Germany. The church was built between 1900 and 1903 according to the plans of Ludwig Becker, who later became the master builder of the cathedral in Mainz. The consecration of Herz-Jesu-Kirche took place on May 19, 1904. During an air raid on Koblenz in 1944, the church suffered severe damage and burned out completely. After the Second World War, it was rebuilt from 1950 -1953. in 2011, a fire broke out in the sacristy due to a faulty power line. The fire damaged not only the sacristy, but due to the strong soot development also the nave and the other rooms were polluted and the church was not usable for months.
