The Jesuitenplatz
Surrounded by historic buildings
The square in the heart of Koblenz Altstadt takes its name from the religious order of the same name that was active here from 1580 to 1773. The Jesuits took over a Cistercian convent founded in the 13th century and rebuilt it.
The castle-like Jesuit grammar school with its towers and magnificent portals on the south side of the square was built in 1694-1701. The town hall of the city of Koblenz has been housed here since 1895 (Town Hall Building I).
The former Jesuit church (now the Citykirche) is located in the south-eastern corner of Jesuitenplatz. It was built in 1613-17.
In the middle of the square, which is surrounded by beautifully restored town houses, stands the monument to the Koblenz physiologist and anatomist Johannes Müller, which dates back to 1899.
